Dark City

“Another one of those that I really need to know better than I do. I’ve tried watching it a couple times and just couldn’t get into it. So when its shelf came up on movie wall roulette, I figured I’d give it another go.

And just like the couple of times before, I just could not get into it. Too slow and strange to really dive into it. It was so slow going, I even took a break to call my Mom one day earlier than usual. I suppose my less than ideal movie watching conditions are partly to blame as well. Given the extreme humidity over here right now, I opted to watch in my window unit air conditioned room. BUt the tv is more angled for fall asleep watching, not sit up and watch so it wasn’t easy to focus on it. And the ac was a bit louder than the dialog that I refused to turn up anymore.

It wasn’t a total loss. I did end up following pieces of it, so I at least have some sense of what the film is. I’d heard lots of Matrix comparisons and now I kinda get why. I don’t know if it’s worth explaining what it’s about, since IMDB tells me there’s strong opinions as to whether or not Kiefer Sutherland’s spoiler voiceover narration at the beginning hurts or helps.

Speaking of Mr Jack Bauer, I _really_ liked him in this role. I’m so used to seeing him as this unquestionable alpha. Tough and angry. Here he was a lowly bumbling scientist with a spark of madness. This was a couple years before he landed his signature role which then influenced everyone he’s been offered since, but I would really like to see more of this side of him. Hopefully next time in a movie that I can fully follow”
