Philomena

“I was really anxious to see this one since its release day, but logistical timing issues pushed it back to the end of the Turkey weekend. In my mind, Judi Dench can do no wrong, and just from the trailers you could tell she was going to be absolutely endearing. I’m so used to her being a total no-nonsene and powerful woman (just watch her as M in James Bond), but this time around she was a cute little granny that totally reminded me of mine.

For me, this movie was just about watching her. As her story unfolded (she was trying to find the son she’d given up for adoption fifty years earlier) I felt the rollercoaster of emotions along with her. Some moments were heartbreaking, others were uplifting, but Dench was always completely charismatic throughout.

I don’t know that there’s really much else to say about this one since it was just a bit of a star vehicle and character piece. But either way it was certainly enjoyable to watch
