Almost Famous (ExpDl Top 100)

“The whole coming of age story thing is kinda overdone. But here is the genre at its best. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll through a magical pair of innocent eyes. Jesus that sounded cheesey. I think what I love about this movie is that it’s so honest and heartfelt. Normally this type of film almost feels like it has as much to prove as its protagonist, but that’s not the case with Almost Famous. You feel swept off your feet as you’re dragged along for the ride with William.

Im actually watching the director’s cut for the first time and I keep getting drawn in by all the new scenes and dialogue. Usually when something gets marked as a director’s cut, there’s one maybe two new scenes. Just some excuse to get you to rebuy the DVD, so this is rather refreshing.

Another thing I love about this movie is that it gave me my favorite song, Tiny Dancer (although I prefer Ben Folds version). That is one of the most beautiful and powerful scenes in a movie. It really might be my actual favorite, not the Reservoir Dogs one I’d mentioned. But the beauty is in the simplicity, how so much is said between the characters without their own words, but just by joining in the song.

This movie also boasts one of the most amazing collection of cast members ever: Kate Hudson, Patrick Fugit, Frances McDormand, Zooey Deschanel, Jason Lee, Billy Crudup, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Anna Paquin, Fairuza Balk, Michael Angarano, Jimmy Fallon, Jay Baruchel. Too many awesomes to talk about each individually.”
