“I was puzzling how the \m/ I let this movie end up so high on the list. And then Seth Green made his first appearance, and it all came back to me. Although I still think that nearly breaking into the top half of the list is a bit generous, but there’s quite the nostalgia factor with this one. One of the first comedies of its kind that I’d ever seen. I was in junior high at the time, so like Saved By The Bell, I took this to be a fairly accurate representation of what I could expect in a few years. I was wrong in both cases.
Further justification, Jerry O’Connell’s minimal screen time and the “”You look like Lestat”” line. Yeah, Im stretching.
One thing that’s great about watching it now is all of the random cast members who went on to bigger and better: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jamie Presley, Peter Facinelli, Lauren Ambrose, Clea Duvall, Donald Faison, Selma Blair, Jenna Elfman. And then ones that are lost but loved in 90’s obscurity: Melissa Joan Hart, Breckin Meyer, Ethan Embry, Charlie Korsmo (fellow MIT alum, yay!). Im having quite the laugh reading thru the cast list on IMDB seeing all the character “”names””
There was a point where I could quote this movie along with it. Im a little rusty, but its coming back to me as I watch. Mmm 90’s goodness all over the place: the clothes, the slang, the soundtrack.
I also feel like this movie may be partially responsible for why I waited so damn long to start drinking.
