“Starting off a lil bit late tonight because I just had to tear through the last 90 pages of Mockingjay, the last book in The Hunger Games trilogy. That series has consumed me for the past couple weeks. One of the upsides to the snowpocalypse is that the slow public transportation affords a lotta reading time.
Here’s the film where I really fell in love with Heath Ledger. As previously mentioned, I was too gaga over Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 10 Things I Hate About You to fully appreciate Heath. Until A Knight’s Tale. I have a vague memory of seeing it at the theater with Kitty, my typical movie buddy in junior high. I even had (actually I think its still up) a poster up on my wall in my room back home. So pretty.
This film was also my first introduction to Paul Bettany and Alan Tudyk. There just aren’t enough wonderful things to say about either of those. Bettany is so commanding and Tudyk is so comedic. Bettany’s Chaucer is just such a brilliant (I use that word a lot, dont I?) character.
Shannyn Sossamon kinda annoys me in general, but I cant help love her character. I like my movie girls to be bad ass, and her Jocelyn certainly has some bite in her dialogue. Definitely gives her points over the usual pretty girls you’d see in films set in this era.
Im not sure what draws me to this film. I guess for the most part its the aforementioned boys, both the cast itself and the wonderful characters. While it is your typical underdog sports story, I do like the chosen sport. That’s the twist that makes it stand out on that front I guess.
The modern music is also a genius choice. IMDB trivia tells me the idea was that it’d be more likely to illicit an emotional response from a modern day audience than period music would. I couldnt agree more.
Heee. The swooshes on the armor always amuse me. I love intentional anachronisms.
